NEW GOVERNMENT SHOULD MIRROR THE MAJORITYWILL OF THE
UNDI RAKYAT GE15
Malaysia’s 15th General Election is almost done. Save for Baram and Padang
Serai, the rakyat has spoken. We would like to thank and congratulate each and
every Malaysian for casting your votes.
Pakatan Harapan emerged as the biggest coalition in Parliament with 81 seats
or 5,810,690 votes, followed by Perikatan Nasional, Barisan Nasional,
Gabungan Parti Sarawak and the others. There were 21.17 million eligible
voters in GE15.
The will of the people must be reflected as the majority, given that the rakyat
voted for Pakatan Harapan. Sabah and Sarawak played a crucial role in framing
the outcome of the election. The Borneo Bloc is the real voice of the peoples’
aspirations.
A coalition government should be formed via party-to-party negotiations, not a
collection of statutory declarations.
CSO Platform for Reform strongly urges that the new government must
represent all, not just the Malays and Muslims in West Malaysia. We want the
incoming government to respect the constitutional framework, respect the
rights for all and not create dual or triple class citizenship as we are all of the
same class of citizenship. The government of the day must aspire the continuity
of institutional reform for the good of the nation.
Don’t abandon the plural society of Malaysia, letting it slide down the road of
exclusivity and extreme ideologies in exchange for position, corruption and
bigotry. The rakyat should and must come first.
