The CSO Platform for Reform views with grave concern the growing intimidation by the police
towards civil rights activists.
We condemn the recent arrest of Sarah Irdina, the founder of MISI: Solidariti, a member NGO of
the CSO Platform. News article also mentioned that the police are investigating Sarah under the
Sedition Act and Communications and Multimedia Act, with regards to a Twitter posting. The
police have also raided Sarah’s residence and confiscated her devices as well as obtained her
social media log-ins.
The actions by the police have stomped hard on the throats of the rakyat who use their voices to
be heard. This also goes to show that the police and the Perikatan Nasional government are
misusing their authorities and clamping down heavily on dissenting voices. The Article 10 of the
Federal Constitution states the citizen’s right to freedom of speech and expression, the right to
assembly and the right to form associations.
The arrest of Sarah and the continued harassment of #Lawan activists as well as other activists
who have only exercised their right to speak are totally unnecessary, illogical and do not hold the
Federal Constitution at the highest law order of the land.
We demand the police to release Sarah Irdina IMMEDIATELY, return her devices, and cease and
desist all forms of harassment and intimidation towards any individuals for exercising their right
to expression!
