The CSO Platform for Reform praises the decision of Parti MUDA
to nominate 50% female candidates for the upcoming State
Elections. This decision is highly progressive, and uplifts women
into the core of the decision-making spaces in large numbers and
as full partners. This also heightens opportunities for greater
representation of women in politics. We hope that other parties
can follow Parti MUDA's example in promoting female candidates
in future elections.
Since the formation of Malaysia, leadership positions have been
predominantly filled by men, with women rarely being entrusted
with such roles. This is not favorable because women play a
crucial role in society. Therefore, the nomination of women in
elections can create opportunities for them to join the country and
state leadership.
For a long time, the voices of women in Malaysia have been
overshadowed by a political landscape dominated by men.
However, women also have the right to be heard and fight for their
rights. Thus, increasing women's involvement in the political
arena will provide them with a space to voice their concerns and
fight for their rights.
Having women in key leadership positions in the country is not an uncommon
occurrence in the world. There are many female political figures outside the country,
like former Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern. Despite being a woman,
she left a significant legacy in New Zealand, proving that women are equally capable
of handling the responsibilities of national leadership as men.
CSO Platform for Reform applauds Parti MUDA's decision for providing more
opportunities for women to participate in the country's politics. The participation of
both women and men in the political arena should be equitable and fair to ensure the
upliftment of all citizens' rights. We call upon other parties to take Parti MUDA as an
example in promoting female leaders.
